A type of machine in the material handling business that could be used to lift and transport loads from one place to another is called a forklift. Each and every forklift component has a particular function. Various parts could be used to move the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The components used to lift and lower the load is called the forklift mast. There are different kinds of masts used for lifting loads to different heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.
Cab
Situated within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated within the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the truck frame. This consists of the counterweights situated at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
