Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
About 200 deaths per year are a result of mishaps that involve lift trucks, or forklifts. Proper inspection and maintenance of lift truck tires could truly help to reduce the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Inspection
Prior to the beginning of each shift, the tires on the lift truck should be checked for indications of damage and wear. The air pressure in the tires must be checked to ensure the pressure is not too low. Having a tire pressure which is low can make the machinery prone to tip-overs while lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The choice of tire type must be based on the kind of surface wherein the lift truck would be utilized. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are best. For surfaces which are smooth, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks being utilized outdoors. Pneumatic tires can grip rough surfaces well as they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other Considerations
According to Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines, all lift trucks require some periodic and some continual daily inspection which is performed every shift. The tires should be inspected again for any indication of damage, such as cuts or wear.

Forklift Safety
Forklift safety is vital for any employer or employee using a forklift because forklift mishaps could be serious leading to personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents could cost your company money if the goods or the forklift are damaged in an accident. Be certain you are well informed regarding forklift safety problems.
