Propane Tank Regulations
The LP or liquid petroleum system style gas container is an OSHA term which refers to the piping, regulators, hoses, regulators, valves and fittings. The agency requires particular components depending upon the capacity of the tank. These individual components should undergo standard laboratory testing. The right laboratory approval proves that the system parts meet pressure, thickness and construction standards.
Tank Location
The OSHA is the organization which dictates how close the propane tank is located to ignitable materials, to buildings, to tanks that contain inflammable liquids, cutting torches and welders. These strict regulations are implemented to make the jobsite very safe for the employees and other people who are nearby.
Nameplate Marks
Liquefied Propane systems have to be marked with the name and the address of the supplier of the container, or tank brand name. The container capacity is listed in gallons or pounds, square foot outside surface, pressure and fill level. Additionally, information about whether or not the container is designed for installation above ground or underground is also visible. These markings need to be on a metal plate connected to the container somewhere in plain sight. OSHA requires that every tank needs to be marked by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors so as to be considered ready and safe to utilize.
Tank Repairs and Modifications
OSHA also regulates any kind of repairs to the LP systems, like welding. The employees performing repairs and the tank owners must know the regulatory codes and standards which the tanks were manufactured. Welding repairs to any component of the system that is subject to internal pressure must first comply with these fabrication codes. Other welding is only permitted on brakctes, saddle plates or lugs.
The OSHA works hard to make sure that individuals who work with forklifts and nearby are kept safe. They have stringent training procedures and regulations in place in order to make sure that these industrial equipment and their repair processes are handled with respect and as safe as possible. It is important that companies follow their rules and steep fines can occur if they are not adhered to.
